IDCTA Eventing Year-End Award Rules
Last Revised: December 2024
OVERVIEW:
IDCTA offers year-end awards at the end of each competition year, in 3 categories:
- Champion and Reserve and third through sixth place awards, based on the average of the three (3) best test scores for each rider/horse combination in the following levels:
– Beginner Novice
– Novice
– Training
– Modified or T/P
– Preliminary
– Intermediate
– Advance
Awards will be available in three (3) divisions: Open/Professional, Adult Amateur and Junior 18 years and Under.
- Journey Award for the same horse/rider combination that has achieved 2 scores of 50 or less (with no XC jumping faults) at three (3) consecutive levels listed above.
- Champion, Reserve Champion, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th place awards will be given for the lowest score at each level.
RULES GOVERNING AWARDS:
Section 1 – MUST BE AN IDCTA MEMBER: To be eligible for any of the above awards, the rider of each horse must be a current member of the IDCTA (either Regular, Young/Junior Rider, or Life member). The rider must be a member before the start date of competition(s) for which scores are submitted in order to have scores count toward IDCTA year-end awards.
Section 2 – Beginner Novice through Advance Level Awards:
- Three (3) SCORES NEEDED PER LEVEL: Rider must have completed a minimum of three (3) recognized USEA Sanctioned Horse Trials with numeric scores. Awards are based on the average of three (3) best scores at one level obtained from recognized USEA Sanctioned Horse Trials from November 1st through October 31st.
- Members may qualify and submit scores for more than one (1) level.
- COMPLETE YEAR-END AWARD FORM: Rider must properly and fully complete the Eventing Score Reporting Form (see link below). Award forms must be postmarked by October 31 if mailed, or sent via email or fax by October 31.
- In the event that no qualified recipients for an awards category are submitted, that awards category for the year will not be awarded.
- Volunteer Hours: Riders must have volunteered a minimum of five (5) hours in the calendar year that scores are submitted, at one or more IDCTA-sanctioned shows or activities, or pay a $100 fee. Volunteer hours must be recorded by the rider in the Volunteer Hours Recording Form (see below link) and included with the Eventing Score Reporting Form (see below link) by October 31st of that competition year. To enable members to comply with this requirement, a volunteer hours recording form will be published in the Scribe and made available on the IDCTA website (see link below). The Board of Directors shall identify sanctioned shows and activities and make them known to the membership through the Scribe and the website.
- A rider/horse combination who has ridden above the Preliminary level in the 5 years prior to the current show season is not eligible to receive year end award recognition in the Novice or Beginner Novice categories. A rider/horse combination that has ridden above the Training level in the 5 years prior to the current show season is not eligible to receive award recognition at the Beginner Novice level.
Section 3 – Journey Award Qualifications:
- The same horse/rider combination must have achieved 2 scores of 50 or less (with no XC jumping faults) at three (3) consecutive levels (all to be recognized USEA Sanctioned Horse Trials) from Beginner Novice through Advanced, for a total of 6 scores.
- No more than three (3) scores can be from the same venue.
- Scores can be earned over a five (5) year period.
- Once all 6 scores are earned, all scores should be submitted with the Eventing Journey Award Form (see link below).
- Rider must be an IDCTA member during the year the 6 scores are submitted.
- A horse/rider combination can only win the Journey Award for the 3 levels once.
Section 4 – Low Score Award Qualifications:
- Low Score – Champion, Reserve Champion, 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th place awards will be given for the lowest score at each level. This is open to IDCTA members who have completed one (1) recognized USEA Sanctioned Horse Trials.
